About

Val Zvinyatskovsky is a theater artist and musician based in Philadelphia, PA and the San Francisco Bay Area. Val strives to craft immersive, emotionally resonant experiences on stage. His work is driven by a deep love for storytelling, where every element is carefully designed to enhance the narrative.
As a musician, he began studying classical piano at the age of 5 and integrated this training with his love of theater at age 13, playing for a production of Urinetown. His passion for piano-conducting, in particular, drove him to tackle scores such as Falsettos, The 25th Annual...Spelling Bee, and tick, tick...BOOM! early in his career. Since then, he has music directed shows—both from the piano and with the baton—for Quintessence Theatre, The Media Theatre, The Pear Theatre, Temple University, and many others. Most recently, he served in the Assistant Music Director / Keys II chair on The Addams Family National Tour.
Val has arranged for and accompanied numerous cabaret and solo performances, including Winter Harmonies with Roxanne Couch (Six & Hamilton), Michael Jahlil's Notes on Resistance, Spencer Boyce's Impersonator, and Sunnyvale Community Players' annual A Night on Broadway cabaret.
An avid composer and orchestrator, his original music was most recently heard in Temple University's production of Silent Sky. Other composition credits include Sierra Prochniak and Lemo Sekiguchi's Poulet Rosé, The Shadowbrook Files podcast, and Val's original musical, The Right: A Gameshow Musical, which had its first workshop in the summer of 2024. Collaborating with composer Jesse Hampsch, Val served as an orchestrator and associate music director on Goblin Market, which premiered in March 2025, under the direction of by Dylan-Cole Passman.

Apart from music, Val is also an active theatrical director and lighting designer. Having studied directing with Craig Slaight (Director Emeritus, A.C.T. Young Conservatory) and Douglas Wager (Arena Stage, Prince Music Theater), he has helmed productions of William Finn's Falsettos, Stephen Sondheim's Follies, and assisted on shows such as Matilda and Fiddler on the Roof. Additionally, he served as the Artistic Director of Upstage Theater (2022–23), where he produced a full season of shows, instituted educational programming, and launched successful fundraising campaigns.
As a lighting designer, his repertoire spans numerous mediums including plays, musicals, ballets, cabarets, and event lighting. His most recent design was for Temple University's production of Dominique Morisseau's Detroit '67, led by three-time Barrymore Award-winning director Amina Robinson. Having worked as a stagehand, electrician, programmer, and followspot operator, he approaches every design project with a holistic perspective.
Val thrives in collaborative environments, working closely with performers, designers, and production teams to bring a shared vision to life. He aims to continue pushing creative boundaries, delivering innovative and memorable performances that captivate audiences.
